Outreach Event – Cheltenham Camera Club

    April 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Cheltenham Camera Club All Hallows Church, 262 Bent Rd, Wyncote, PA, United States
    Outreach Event

This event is FREE and open to our members and the general public.

Part of this presentation will be to introduce the wide scope of astrophotography avenues open to the amateur photography enthusiast. Although much of the hobby is focused on deep sky targets, there are many other very satisfying aspects of photographing the night sky requiring far less specialized equipment and training. In addition to deep sky, we will give an overview at making skyscapes, star trails, constellations, photographing the Sun, Moon, Planets, Northern Lights, eclipses, meteor showers and comets.

For the camera club members, we will put a special emphasis on how to use a typical DSLR camera/lenses in manual mode on a tripod to capture many of these unique objects. Additionally, we will highlight using a SeeStar digital smart scope as an entryway into imaging the night sky (Thanks Don Schuenemann). Weather permitting a live demo on site will be provided.

Resources for additional information/study will be provided to attendees.

BMAA Monthly Meeting: “Electronically assisted observing” by Gary Sprague

    July 1 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Upper Dublin Lutheran Church 411 Susquehanna Rd, Ambler, United States
    BMAA Monthly Meeting

In addition to our regular agenda items there will be a Special Presentation on "Electronically assisted observing" by Gary Sprague

This special presentation will describe approaches for using video cameras to augment visual observing. This is a “hybrid” approach to visual observing using elements of imaging with a video camera. It can be relatively easy and affordable (compared to standard astrophotography). Video cameras (camcorders, webcams, etc.) are numerous; they use CCD’s smaller than DSLR and can obtain multiple images/minute. Images can be viewed immediately using a video monitor or they can be output to a computer. The presentation will describe typical equipment available and demonstrate one particular approach.

Please use the entrance to the right of the main entrance, look for the yellow and black BMAA sign.
